Honolulu Festival 2019

Honoring Tutu Correa
Tutu Caroline Correia, Poakalani’s Grandmother was also an avid Hawaiian quilter. Born in 1886 she moved from Ka’u on Hawaii Island to Honolulu when she was only 12. Congratulations to the Poakalani Ohana Quilters in Japan
It was an amazing show. 63 quilts in which 22 were new wall hangings and 1 large size quilt at their first showing. We are happy that the tradition of Hawaiian quilting will continue with these 22 quilting teachers in Japan. I hope to post more of these awesome quilts soon.

The popular maile/ilima lei is used, given, presented at many special occasions in Hawaii especially weddings, graduations, proms, and even blessings.
