When I speak about my mom, Poakalani I always mention that when she made her cushion wall hangings, she didn’t use a quilting hoop but a square quilting frame. The quilting frame measured about 24″ x 24″ and John would staple elastic to the corners and sides of the wooden frame where she would pin her cushion top to quilt. It was helpful when she first started quilting not having to constantly turn a quilting hoop over to flatten the back. Over the years I’ve tried to find photo’s of that frame, this past week while archiving and scanning my many photo’s I came across her quilting frame and wanted to share that with you. I’m so proud of her and all that she did to promote Hawaiian quilting. The quilting classes she started back in 1988 still meet every Saturday at the Higashi Hongwanji.
