The 2023 Honolulu Festival was a huge success and the Poakalani & Co Quilt exhibit was stunning considering our classes hadn’t met three years. It was exciting to hang the quilts, many quilted during the Covid Shut-down, and seeing everyone. It was three days of admiration, congratulations and friendship.
One week after the show a miracle happened we found a venue to hold our weekly classes at the Higashi Hongwanji Temple in Liliha. So we had a successful exhibit, found a new home for our classes and NOW we start planning for Honolulu Festival 2024.
…But with the Festival just ten months away I thought… what can we do to showcase our quilt club and quilters. I knew that making a full size/queen quilt in ten months would stress out some of us so I decided to go through John’s awesome collection of patterns where I found the 45″ x 45″ 50 State Quilts that John designed years ago, which I do have on the commercial market, and each design features the state flower so all I needed was 51 quilters, Yes I know we only have 50 states but John also designed the pattern for Washington DC, and when I presented the idea to the quilters the second miracle happened, everyone in the class volunteered and now all the patterns are spoken for and we’re on our way to having another Show Stopping, Awe-Inspiring Honolulu Festival 2024.
Follow along while we work away across the United States and renew our love for our country and the beautiful flowers that each state calls their own. Of course Pat was the first to finish her Quilt – the Sego Lily of Utah and she’s one of three quilters who will be a making two quilts. Congratulations Pat.
