martha stewartYou just gotta love Martha Stewart.  I came across this photo on Pinterest and had to post it.  I’m just loving the intricate design of the breadfruit(ulu) pattern on the cake . The meaning of the design is abundance in love, happiness and money.

Ulu - Breadfruit

‘Ulu is associated with many Hawaiian myths and legends.Legend traces its origin to a time of famine when Ku, the god of building and war, buried himself in the earth near his home. He later turned into an `ulu tree so that his wife and children would not starve. Ku had told his wife that a fruit shaped like a man’s head would spring from his body. “My body will be the trunk and branches; my hands will be the leaves; the heart, core, inside the fruit will be my tongue. Roast the fruit, soak it, beat off the skin, eat some yourself, and feed the children.

The most popular Hawaiian Quilt Design is the Ulu (Breadfruit Design)  Many legends are associated with this fruit but for a Hawaiian quilter it is believed that if you make this design first you will not want for anything in life from food to money.  45″ x 45″ Designed by John Serrao/js666-bk8

Building Renovation Kanaina Building – Update May, 2017

February 19, 2017February 19, 2017
Aloha Everyone, We were all  aware that the Kanaina Building was scheduled for renovations a year ago.  We are now getting closer to the renovation date so we will be on a week to week notice for the quilting classes.  Please keep checking weekly for an updated status.  We will be at the Iolani Palace  through the month of June but haven't gotten any update for the month of July.  We have found a temporary home at the Bishop Museum when the renovations begin and will let you know when the time gets closer.. Thank you for your patience.   Cissy
