We’re home from the most amazing Hawaiian quit exhibit held in Yokohama, Japan… and here are a few quilts we wanted to share with you. It was a huge undertaking that started back in 2012 when we first attempted to have all Eight Hawaiian Islands represented in our 2014 Hawaiian Quilt Exhibit at the Honolulu…
And the Hulia Ano Exhibit… what a great day. 3 quilts on display.
It was an amazing show. 63 quilts in which 22 were new wall hangings and 1 large size quilt at their first showing. We are happy that the tradition of Hawaiian quilting will continue with these 22 quilting teachers in Japan. I hope to post more of these awesome quilts soon.
The popular maile/ilima lei is used, given, presented at many special occasions in Hawaii especially weddings, graduations, proms, and even blessings. It was also a favorite quilt design during the 1990’s. There are many Ilima/Maile patterns showing the flowers intertwined like the beautiful lei. 45″ x 60″ …
