Mitsue Heleconia

We always tell our quilters, it’s not just the design but also the choice of colors and quilting lines that gives the quilt its life and spirit. This quilt by Mitsue is one of my favorites not only because it’s green(um my favorite color) but by using a white background the designs just popped off the quilt.  Simple in design with such soothing  and relaxing colors.  Designed by John Serrao.  Quilted by Hawaiian Quilt Instructor Mitsue Toi.

It only takes 5 days of traveling on the Mainland for me to start missing my island home.  Hawaii doesn’t have the amazing four seasons, especially Winter and Fall  like the mainland,  but we have that nonstop floral blossoms blooming year round, every day rain or shine.   This quilt was designed for Hawaii’s Sunny Winter Gardens.  90″ x 90″  Designed by John Serrao

Heleconia Garden – Inspired by our quilter Elsie who loves to share with us her garden stories and who inspired John to create this pattern.  90″x 90″  Designed by John Serrao Personal Design

One of my favorite places to visit when I’m on Hawaii island is the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden.  After you visit this amazing garden it will be your favorite too.  All you floral photographers bring extra batteries for your camera’s.

Waikahalulu – Today known as the Liliuokalani Gardens  which was once filled with an abundance of exotic flowers.  Red Gingers, Yellow Gingers, Bird of Pradise, Torch Gingers and of course the Heleconia. This quilt was designed for that secret hideaway in lower Nuuanu.     90″ x 90″ Designed by John Serrao.

My Tutu Correa’s home was very near to Waikahalulu Falls.  In fact today I live right next door to this legendary place.  My mother would tell us that if you have the “sight” sometimes you could see the wahine mo’o (mermaid) siting on the rocks brushing her long hair.  My mom would also tell us that Tutu would also warn the boys not to swim in that famous  water hole because the wahine mo’o loves boys.  Today records show that only the male gender has ever died at Waikahalulu Falls.

Poakalani Hawaiian Quilting Classes Canceled Until Further Notice

January 20, 2020January 20, 2020
For the safety and health of our quilting family the Poakalani Hawaiian Quilting Classes have been canceled until further notice.  It was an easy decision for both of us because we want all of you healthy when we return when all of this is over.  If any of you need anything and I mean anything please give us a call 223-1108.  In the meantime please also stay safe, wash your hands, don't touch your face and pray this will be over soon.  All of you are in our daily prayers.      Tuffy & Cissy
