Quilts That Comfort

It has always been our belief that every quilt tells a story.  Stories starring not only the recipient of the quilt but also the quilter, and we must remember the designer with his magic pencils who creates the story on paper in the form of a Hawaiian Quilt Design.  Hawaiian Quilts tell stories of love, memorable occasions , favorite places and even hopes and dreams for the future but it’s the Hawaiian Comfort Quilt that truly symbolize the true meaning of living Hawaiian.  Everyone knows that Hawaiian Quilts cannot heal but it truly can bring comfort to those who are experiencing health concerns.  This Awa Quilt was designed by Kumu Nobuko Nakagawa and quilted by her student Reiko Takeuhi for our amazing Quilt Designer John who’s having a few health concerns these past months.  Thank you Nobuko and Reiko for bringing comfort to John.  He looks good and feels amazing.

Sabine of Germany taking a picture of her finished quilt on the beach in Italy.  Not sure which is more beautiful the quilt or the background.  No the quilt is.  It’s beautiful Sabine and I have your next pattern in the mail, another dolphin design. Design by Poakalani/John Serrao

No Class June 9 – Kamehameha Day Parade

May 24, 2018May 24, 2018
Please mark your calendars and we'll see everyone back at class on June 16.  Just a side note.  When anyone asked where our quilting classes are held my mother Poakalani would tell them, "Look for the Kamehameha Statue... his out stretched arm points to the building we quilt at across the street."  It's true and oh so funny.

Building Renovation Kanaina Building – Update May, 2017

February 19, 2017February 19, 2017
Aloha Everyone, We were all  aware that the Kanaina Building was scheduled for renovations a year ago.  We are now getting closer to the renovation date so we will be on a week to week notice for the quilting classes.  Please keep checking weekly for an updated status.  We will be at the Iolani Palace  through the month of December but haven't gotten any update for the month of January or February.  We have found a temporary home at the Bishop Museum when the renovations begin and will let you know when the time gets closer.. Thank you for your patience.   Cissy
